About the artist:
Agnes Minotto, born Agnes Martha Caroline Zaremba in 1862, was a German stage actress who achieved international acclaim under the name Agnes Sorma. She was one of the most prominent actresses of her time, often referred to as "the German Bernhardt," and was particularly celebrated for her performance as Nora in Henrik Ibsen's play, A Doll's House, a role she originated in 1894. After marrying Count Demetrius Minotto in 1890, she became a countess and continued to pursue her artistic interests. She was an accomplished watercolourist, and her paintings, which frequently depict scenes from Venice, are a testament to her versatile talent beyond the stage.
