Pentti Monkkonen, a Los Angeles artist born in 1975, has a diverse portfolio, from NASA artifact art to truck-side relief sculptures. His Box Trucks series, for instance, humorously critiques food commercialization by depicting anthropomorphic, spray-painted vegetables on vehicles, specifically parodying Worldwide Produce.
His truck art often features cryptic branding and graffiti that subtly references art world figures. Monkkonen's interest in trucks and freeways emerged from his 1997 "Herfhaf-Maahaf Ceremony," an African-ritual inspired performance. Post-ceremony, he conceived a skull car prototype and distinctive swan and duck mini-motorbikes.
Monkkonen's art has been exhibited globally, including at prominent galleries in London, Zurich, Paris, Berlin, and Brescia.
- The artwork in the image features a series of panels with eye-like motifs and incorporates elements like a box truck painting and colourful door-like structures.
- The title of the exhibition, "Forever Blowing Bubbles," references a popular song and suggests themes of impermanence and dreams.
- The photographs of the exhibition were taken by Robert Glowacki.
