About the artwork
Roz Wilson’s 2014 McLaren 01 is a bold and meticulously executed celebration of contemporary automotive design. Painted in oil on canvas, the work captures the sculptural dynamism of the McLaren’s aerodynamic form — its sweeping curves, reflective surfaces and engineered precision rendered with striking clarity. The vivid green bodywork sits against a clean, modern backdrop, amplifying the car’s presence and giving the composition a crisp, high‑impact visual punch.
Wilson’s technical control and eye for detail elevate the subject beyond realism, presenting the supercar as both an object of beauty and a symbol of modern performance culture. This is a standout example of her ability to merge fine art with automotive iconography, making it a compelling piece for collectors of contemporary realism and motoring‑themed art.
About the Artist
Born in Hertfordshire in 1960, Roz Wilson is a contemporary British artist celebrated for her exquisitely detailed paintings of classic and high‑performance cars. Her early training in graphic design — undertaken before the digital era — required every element to be drawn by hand, instilling the precision and discipline that now define her photorealistic style.
Before returning fully to painting, Wilson lived a vibrant creative life in London, designing and making bespoke clothing for high‑profile clients including Freddie Mercury and Sigue Sigue Sputnik. After leaving the city for a quieter life on a Berkshire houseboat, she rediscovered her passion for fine art, gradually refining her skills in portraiture, landscape and ultimately the subject that became her hallmark: cars and motorcycles.
Her automotive works are distinguished by their sensual, sculptural treatment of form and her ability to capture the world reflected in polished metal surfaces. Wilson has won numerous awards, and a personal career highlight came when Eric Clapton signed the portrait she created for London’s Hard Rock Café. Now based in the Surrey Hills, she continues to paint alongside a lifelong enthusiasm for classic vehicles — from Jaguars and Chryslers to her beloved Harley Davidson, which has been with her for over two decades.
