He began painting early in life, winning an international prize at age eleven, but didn't pursue it seriously until 1976. He was a self-taught artist for a time, drawing inspiration from masters like Sickert, Van Gogh, and Turner. He later studied Fine Art at Bradford School of Art, where his style evolved towards Expressionism.
De More was known for his distinctive heavy impasto technique, often applied with kitchen knives, to create a sense of life, energy, and movement in his work. He preferred to paint the mundane and ordinary, rather than the picturesque, with the aim of elevating the subject to a more memorable plane. His primary source of inspiration came from observation and on-the-spot drawing, which he considered to be the start of an intimate relationship with his subject. His work often focused on the everyday life and energies of Yorkshire, including its people, streets, markets, and buildings.
