Collection: Heddy Kun

Heddy Kun is a Yugoslavian/Israeli artist whose life story is as remarkable as her vibrant paintings. Born Heddy Davidowitz in 1936 near Zagreb, Yugoslavia, she survived the Holocaust as a child after her parents and younger brother were murdered at Auschwitz. She and her older brother Shalom were smuggled to Budapest, where they lived with their grandparents in the Jewish ghetto. After the war, Heddy studied at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts and moved to Israel in 1956, where she married fellow artist Zeev Kun and built a successful artistic career. Her paintings are filled with strong, joyful colour, light and optimism, often depicting flowers, gardens, landscapes and the beauty of everyday life. Her son, Shay Kun, also became an accomplished artist, continuing a remarkable family connection to art.
