As a young man Laurence Rushton spent much of his time in prisons in England. He also managed to escape twice. It was in prison that Larry honed his artistic talents, often selling his art to inmates and guards. By 1975 "Larry" had made a name as a famous British artist. He had some exhibitions including one which he shared with an ex-policeman and his work began to sell. In an interview in 1975 he claimed he was a disciplined artist and worked a solid 8 hours a day.
